Sweden, being an archipelago with islands separated from each other by the Baltic Sea and Lake Malarn, requires an effected means of media and mass communication in order to easily communicate and receive information from any part of the country. The national capital of Sweden which is the City of Stockholm is sort of like Sweden in miniature because the city is also scattered among water bodies and is comprised of 14 major islands.
Unlike other mainland European cities which can easily distribute and receive news and information since they are located within one physically connected area, Sweden and the City of Stockholm may have a slower process of news dissemination and news accumulation because of the difficulties that geography poses. Moreover, an estimated 21 million passengers traveled to and from the Stockholm regions. The Stockholm ports served 11 million passengers, while the train carried 16 million passengers.
Stockholm is very accessible and has such good cost position. It is strategically located where the Lake Mlaren and Baltic Sea meets. Tourists are enticed by the places beauty that they spent an average of 2.4 days in the city. It is also observed that those who stayed for the shortest period of time are those with hotel accommodations, while the campers stayed the longest.
Stockholm is one of the major economically progressive areas in Europe. It is considered the leader in the fields of information technology, health care industry and research. The City of Stockholm also provides for one-fifth of the total employment and one-fourth of the gross national product in the country. Moreover, Stockholms economy is growing at a much faster rate than that of the other cities in Sweden.
