Supermodel Gisele Bundchen has come under fire after calling for a “worldwide law” to ensure new mothers breastfeed their babies for six months after giving birth.

The Brazilian beauty – who has a baby son, Benjamin – spoke out in America’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine, urging mums to feed their newborns naturally to ensure they get the nutrients they need.

She said, “I think there should be a worldwide law, in my opinion, that mothers should breastfeed their babies for six months.”

But her comments have angered health experts – because not all new mums are physically able to breastfeed.

Sue Jacob, a midwife teacher at the Royal College of Midwives, tells the Daily Star, “We know breastfeeding is good for women and children but we also don’t want to marginalise those who can’t breastfeed for whatever reason.”

Anti Breast Feeding Association member Tegan Churchill adds, “Choosing to formula feed is not child neglect.”
