Several Chinese companies with offices in Amsterdam are going expand their staff here and one new Chinese IT company is opening an office in Amsterdam, the municipality says following a visit to Beijing by Amsterdam Mayor Eberhard van der Laan. Empty churches big business in Holland

The growing number of churches no longer serving as such has led to a renovation boom, a national heritage foundation says. As a result of the ongoing secularisation, only 7,000 of Holland’s 19,000 churches are still being used for worship. Students of The Hague University of Applied Sciences have won a prize for Europe’s most efficient fuel-efficient city car. The car, which won the first prize at the European Shell Eco-marathon, runs on hydrogen and uses 14 times less energy than the average electrical car. By 2015 municipalities together will have 2.6 billion euros to help underprivileged workers, Deputy Minister for Social Affairs Paul de Krom says in a letter to parliament.
