Girls Aloud singer Cheryl Cole has filed for divorce from her husband, Chelsea defender Ashley, citing unreasonable behaviour.
The X Factor judge’s PR firm confirmed she was seeking a permanent split from her husband after almost four years of marriage.
Newspaper reports claim she is not asking for any money from the footballer, who was allegedly unfaithful to his wife with several women.
They were compounded by reports that his mobile phone was used to send
compromising pictures of him and indulge in “text sex” with two women.
The divorce action was lodged on Tuesday at London’s High Court and it has been suggested it will be finalised before the start of the World Cup in South Africa on June 11.
The celebrity couple got together in 2004 and married in 2006.
Cheryl, went on to have a successful solo career after Girls Aloud under her married name and sources have said she may go on to be known simply as Cheryl, or revert to her maiden name.
Ashley Cole was accused of being a serial cheat after several women come forward making allegations and selling their stories.
He was linked to US political aide Ann Corbitt, glamour model Sonia Wild, Liverpool club secretary Vicki Gough and hairdresser Aimee Walton.
More allegations followed at the beginning of 2010 and Cheryl officially announced she was separating from Ashley in February via her management on the Supersonic PR’s Twitter page.
The Coles would have celebrated their fourth wedding anniversary in July.
