Ellie Goulding feels she has been so hyped up that some people don’t want to like her music.

The 23-year-old singer-songwriter topped the BBC Sound Of 2010 poll and won the Critics Choice Award at the 2010 Brits, but claims it hasn’t necessarily been the advantage it sounds.

Ellie said: “People want to not like me because I’ve been so hyped up.”

She explained: “A journalist came to a gig a few weeks ago and he wrote this amazing review, but he was like, because my success has been so pre-ordained, he wants to not like me, he wants to be critical and sceptical – but he couldn’t because he said that I was good. So he couldn’t be critical.

“Which I thought kind of summed up the view of me really, that people are annoyed with seeing me all the time.

“I don’t know why, it must be for a reason, because everyone’s started to sort of turn and think, ‘Well actually I quite like her’.”

But the Starry-Eyed singer has had plenty of good reviews.

She said: “I very rarely hear anything bad said about me. I think it’s because I’m quite a nice person and I work really hard and I’m really passionate about what I do – and not for any other reason than I love making music. So I think that might show in my music a bit.”

Ellie’s debut album Lights is released on March 1.
