For the first time are more than 50 per cent of all who are arrested for criminal acts in the city of Oslo foreign citizens. More than seven out of ten prisoners in Oslo jails are not Norwegian citizens.
Nine years ago a little more than 30 per cent of those arrested in Oslo were persons with foreign citizenship.
- There are today around 400 prisoners in the Oslo Jail, and there are 60 nationalities represented here, says administrative leader of Oslo Fengsel, Stig Meisler.
The actual number of persons arrested in Oslo in the first half of the year were 2363 with Norwegian citizenship and 2564 with foreign nationality.
At present 8.5 per cent of the Norwegian population are people of foreign nationality.
