The England boss has revealed the 30 men he will take to a training camp in Austria.

This first selection will then be trimmed down to 23 players at the end of the month in time for the start of the tournament on June 11.

On Monday the Italian revealed he had teamed up with an online gambling company to create the “Capello Index”.

But after a meeting between him and senior Football Association staff this morning, it was decided that the project will be suspended until after England’s bid for glory in South Africa is over.

“Fabio Capello’s involvement has been purely as a technical expert to establish statistical criteria for the Index,” a spokesmen for Capello outlined.

“He has not been directly involved in the on-line gaming element of the site.

“However, he wants to ensure that all appropriate protocols are in place before the project proceeds and has therefore decided today to postpone it.”

The index is a system designed to publicly rate players’ performances.

It is based on 500 different possible individual contributions to a match situation and it was planned that each player would be given a mark out of 100 just two hours after they finish a World Cup match.

But following its launch at the London Stock Exchange,Capello faced a stream of criticism.

With England players already sensitive about being marked, concerns were raised that the system could embarrass players and have a negative effect on their performances and morale.

But the 63-year-old maintained that the system was created to help his team: “I can say, ‘Look, you have to improve’, you have to train more’ or ‘What happened?’”

“The index is really good. I use all of it for performance and position. But the mind of the players matters more.

He added: “The value of the players is what really happens when they are with the national team.

“Some players are really good on the pitch and not good with the national team.

“If I went by ratings alone, I can’t select Liverpool players for the World Cup because the performances were not so high.”

He said he believed the online game would be “good for fans” who would have been provided with detailed match analysis.

There have been reports that Football Association executives advised Capello not to get involved in the project.

The website has been running a trial for the last four weeks, tracking the top six clubs in England, plus three from Italy and two from Spain.

Tottenham Hotspurs’ Ledley King was rated the second best player behind Real Madrid’s star Christiano Ronaldo.

Joe Cole was rated second best over the last weekend for his appearance in Chelsea’s 8-0 defeat over Wigan.

Online gamblers can pay a minimum of £29.99 through to a top price of £199.99 to play the fantasy game but Capello is not believed to have received payment for his involvement.

Meanwhile World Cup organisers have told Sky News that there are still 280,000 tickets left unsold for the tournament.

However, they say they are hopeful there will be a last-minute rush.

England’s first match is against the USA on June 12 and it looks like they will be playing on a diet of spice and chilli.

Tabasco and peri-peri sauces, Wasabi paste and sweet chilli dipping sauce are just some of the items the FA has requested for players while they are in South Africa.

The official team supermarket Tesco said they have also asked for seaweed sheets, pine nuts, dried apricots, organic vegetable stock cubes and organic chocolate.

The store’s nutritionist Laura Street said the variety is encourgaging: “It is always important to enjoy food but if the players become bored of what’s on the menu they’re likely to eat less and that will affect their performance.”
