AUSTRALIAN-born tennis prodigy Laura Robson apologised today for branding some of her young international female rivals “sluts” who “go with every guy”.

The Melbourne-raised 16-year-old, who now represents Britain, made the controversial remarks in an interview and glamorous photo shoot with British Vogue magazine.

She said: “Some of the tennis girls, they’re sluts.

“They go with every guy and make such a bad name for themselves – and you don’t want to be known for stuff like that. You want to be more discreet.”

Robson has now said sorry, describing her comments as “inappropriate”.

“I would just like to say a big sorry to anyone that I may have offended in an interview published recently,” she said, according to The Times.

“I made a totally inappropriate, throwaway comment without considering the consequences.

“I still have a lot to learn both on and off the court, and clearly I need to be a lot more careful about how silly remarks may come across when taken out of context.

“I live for tennis, I have many good friends in the game and I would never want to do anything that could hurt the reputation of a game I love. I will learn a lot from this and now just want to focus on my tennis.”

Earlier in the week, on her Twitter page, Robson had said she was misquoted by the fashion magazine.

“Really enjoyed the photo shoot and looking forward to seeing the full piece, shame some quotes were taken out of context today though,” she wrote.
